Best wishes

We’re going to leave the PBRTV coverage area for a little bit and head out to the Delmarva Peninsula. My family and I twice vacationed at Rehoboth Beach in the late 1990s and my wife and I took our honeymoon there a couple of years ago. It was during those trips that I became acquainted with, among other stations, WQHQ-FM (104.7 Ocean City/Salisbury) which is commonly known as “Q-105”.

As Delmarva prepares for impact of Hurricane Irene, they are also saying goodbye to WQHQ’s Sandi Alexander who has spent a remarkable 25 years with the station under a couple or few different ownerships (it’s currently owned by Clear Channel). Sandi is leaving on her own terms though, citing that she would like to spend time with her husband and children. “I’m a mom, first and foremost,” she told Delmarva Now – a local news source. Her first gig was at station WKHI where she spent 5 years. She went to WQHQ on the weekends and soon became the Eastern Shore’s first-ever female mid-day host and the rest is history. For a time she was morning co-host with Mike Cheney but has spent the last several years back in the mid-days. She has also hosted the station’s public affairs program which airs on all of the sister stations as well.

We tip our hat and send our best wishes to Sandi Alexander today for doing what so few seem to be able to do in this business now. That is to remain with a station for such a long run, through different ownerships and be able to leave when it feels right, not when management tells you you’re done. Congratulations, Sandi! All the best in the future.
