Bill Dorrion update
Erie-Meadville: I received an update from Bill Dorrion regarding the end of his employment from Media One in Jamestown, New York. Bill said that he resigned from Media One on May 31st after job conditions became unbearable. There were threats of him losing his job if he didn't perform well with his sales part of the job. Now I can say that Bill is a workaholic when it comes to radio. He stated 22 years ago that he'd leave radio if he wasn't having fun anymore. Well, that time came & he had to do what was best for he and his family. I wish Bill well with his future endeavors and I hope that he will be back on the airwaves soon.Readers’ Forum
I remember Bill from his days at WNAE (1310 Warren). Sad to hear he’s leaving the biz.

It is a shame. I told him to read your thoughts about radio over on Jack’s board. Didn’t Media One buy ‘XTA from Bob Winters? I was gone before the sale occured & cannot recall who bought the station. Now it’s Jim in Jamestown & Tom in Ashtabula.

Yes, Media One, which already owned Classy 100 and WRIE, purchased WXTA in 1997. I wasn’t in on the details, but Media One then looked at acquiring Rocket 101 and Star 104 for a “supercombo” in Erie (I still have the newspaper articles). When that fell through, Media One sold its Erie properties. I met Tom once or twice back then, but Jim headed Media One operations, then as now. Speaking of which, I hope Tom can hold on to WREO—97.1’s 50,000-watt signal is the gem of the Ashtabula cluster and I wouldn’t want to see that signal moved to Youngstown.

I think Tom’s plan was to hold on to WREO & wasn’t too thrilled about possibly losing it with the proposed signal swap. The station would have only been 4,500 watts in order to better cover Youngstown. They could always move 106.1 closer to the center of Mahoning county for better coverage or add a translator further south from Niles. Oh btw, I was able to pick up WERG in Middlefield, Ohio last week. The station really has a killer signal now.
