WAMO-FM becomes WAOB
Pittsburgh: WAMO-FM has become WAOB (106.7) according to the FCC. The station and its AM sisters fell silent on September 8. All three were bought by St. Joseph Missions during the summer. WAMO-AM and WPGR-AM so far remain for 860 and 1510 respectively.Readers’ Forum
What happens to call letters such as WAMO, when they come in change the format and create new call letters….?

Simple. They go back into the pot at the FCC and can be reassigned in the future.

To be reassigned anywhere in the country or regionally…?
I just don’t understand why anyone would change the call letters from WAMO....When it comes to advertising, you can do so much with WAMO not to mention the history in the area….Regardless if you are changing your format, WAMO is a better set of call letters than what they will now have…?

Bob, the callsign can now be used anywhere East of the Mississippi River by anyone who would desire them. A lot of times when formats and/or ownerships change for radio stations – especially when both happen – the callsign changes to reflect the change. The idea being that there is little or no association with what things used to be…and in this case it makes total sense.

Hey, I think this is great! When do you think the programming schedule will be available, I’d like to share this with my friends. I’m interested in volunteering also, is there any need? Pittsburgh Catholics really need somewhere else than “word-fm” Mike

It is great to hear the reading of Isaiah 52-54 these past couple of days (Passover/Easter) over your radio programming. I enjoyed the music also. I am so glad I now have an option in listening to a Christian radio station like yours. Thanks for the good work!

I am trying to find out the mailing address and phone number-general contact information-about WAOB. I have ten years experience in on-air work in the classical music format, which of course includes a lot of religious, and especially Catholic, music, a whole millenium’s worth. Any help with this contact info would be appreciated. Thanks!
