Rumors swirl about 93.7
Pittsburgh:The message boards have been swirling with rumors and Radio Insight reports that CBS Radio may be looking to add its All-Sports format here in Pittsburgh. Lance Venta notes that several domains - including 937thefan.com, Thefan937.com, TheFanofPittsburgh.com, 937thefanPGH.com, TheFanPGH.com and TheFanofPGH.com - have been registered within the last few weeks. He also notes that Clear Channel has the Play-By-Play rights to University of Pittsburgh, the Penguins and the Pirates. But it's possible that the Steelers are still open after the previous deal expired in 2005.
So will the aspects of B-94 (the second wave) be mixed in with Star 100.7, WZPT? That remains to be seen. Incidentally, our initial "little bird" had heard that WZPT would be blown up with those aspects being stirred into B-94.
(AFTERNOON UPDATE - 1/15 4:51p.m.) - Bob Smizik's blog says the possible new format could have a role for former WTAE-TV (4) sports anchor Jon Burton.

Here’s some food for thought about this…
Buck Head gets transferred to Detroit sister station.
Ellis Cannon is “let go” from WPGB/Clear Channel…
Cowinkidink?

And my guess is, if it follows recent trend at other CBS Radio stations in markets with a CBS TV O&O, either station that goes sports talk becomes KDKA-FM?

All I ask is please no Steigerwalds…no John, no Paul, and no Danny.
Well, maybe Danny would be OK….

If Ellis is part of the new format, let’s hope the station is on 93.7. At least that signal can be heard in Eastern Ohio! ( Can’t pick up 100.7 here!)

I get a few Pittsburgh signals here near Cochranton. WLTJ is the strongest with WBZW is also strong. I recently purchased an Ira internet radio and can get over 11,000 stations. I can now listen to WEAE and WBGG as well as others. It will be interesting to see how an FM sports station there becomes a player for one of the major teams broadcast rights.

Clear Channel still holds Steelers radio rights — KDKA put in a bid in 2006 but CC was able to renew its contract.

Amen to the No Steigerwalds thought. Talk about overexposed.
