Wild weather weekend brings problems and solutions

Pittsburgh:

Fybush.com reports that two stations were knocked off the air over the weekend as a result of the storm. WJAS (1320) and WBGG (970) were off the air for quite some time as a result of power outages and heavy winds. Yet WKVE-FM (103.1) managed to go on the air with its new Mt. Pleasant transmitter airing a loop of emergency information for Greene and Fayette Counties.

KDKA radio should be ashamed to call itself Newsradio. When many of us had our power out on Saturday, and had a battery powered radio to get information about the situation, Rob Pratte was interviewing the pet doctor and the weight loss lady. The station with 50,000 watts should be more responsible than that.

WJPA-AM and FM in Washington were both off the air for a period of time this past weekend.

Rich, I do agree with your point, but if there is a contractual agreement to air the program, then my guess is that unless there is permission granted to forgo the program for the week, KDKA has to air the program (with an exception granted for EAS messages, of course). This may very well have been out of Mr. Pratte’s hands.
