WAOB-A/F and WPGR-A expected to kick off on Sunday

Pittsburgh: WAOB-AM/FM (860 Millvale/106.7 Beaver Falls) and WPGR-AM (1510 Monroeville) are all expected to return to the airwaves on Sunday with what Scott Fybush calls a "Catholic Radio trimulcast". The stations will air a live broadcast of the Mass from the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg. All three stations have been off the air since September 8 when they were formally taken over by St. Joseph's Missions. Sheridan Broadcasting sold the old WAMO-AM/FM and WPGR-AM to S.J.M. for $8.9 Million last summer.

I called directory assistance for WAOB’s phone number. The operator said ETCOMESPIERE Two Two Oh

Is it me or did 106.7 get more preachy since September :)

I caught it earlier today and dry toast comes to mind.

For years I have loved WAMO-AM 860 and am grateful that at least the new AM station will retain an R&B format. Nevertheless, all it took was five seconds of listening to the 106.7 FM station to realize how much I hate it. For the sake of the younger listeners who are deprived of a hip-hop/R&B station, I hope someone steps up and buys this Catholic group out. The station should be more aptly titled “Irrelevant Radio,” which is exactly what it is.

There is no “new AM station retaining an R&B format.” Eddie Edwards pulled out of his deal to buy WPYT-660, and WAOB-860 and WPGR-1510 will both be Catholic, simulcasting the FM station at times.

As a Pittsburgh local hip hop and r&b producer the wamo buy out was definitely a slap in the face. Its hard enough to get exposure here as it is. With all the high paid athletes and political figures etc. that can actually get the ball rolling financially, nobody seems to care or want any parts of it. I feel a radio station would be a nice investment for someone.

I listened to ‘AOB’s 1st broadcast on February 14, and the call letters, according to Bishop Lawrence Brandt are for ‘We Are One Body.’ WAOB, according to Bishop Brandt, who is the bishop of Greensburg, will be airing full time on March 19, with bishops offering teaching lessons and more. As a converted Catholic (member of St. Patrick’s of Canonsburg’s RCIA class of 1994), WAOB will help me get back in touch with the Church. St. Patrick’s is 3 miles from where I live, and I have never been going to church often since I moved to Chartiers Township in 2001, but thank goodness St. Joseph Missions will help me get back to religion with WAOB. As for a station that can air hip hop and R & B, if you have a computer, check out WDAS “Philly’s Best” at http://www.wdas.com,, or listen to New York’s HOT 97, 103.5 KTU or WBLS on the internet. For those who have a computer, those stations listed above or stations that exclusively provide hip hop and R & B 24/7 online will help fans of WAMO ease their grief and sorrow of losing 106.7 FM. Please do not mock or ridicule WAOB, because the negativity of WAOB to me is sacrileige. I finally can listen to a station on the FM that I’ll enjoy with WAOB, let’s give it a chance. But for those who miss WAMO, listen to the internet and check out other hip hop and R&B stations across the country. You’ll be glad you did.

Just what this city needs…more religious radio stations.

Praise the Lord! I listen to Relevant Radio and EWTN radio thru the computer—I am so excited that I can access Catholic Radio thru my radios at home and in the car. Thank you, thank you and God bless you all.

I can understand the sense of loss when a beloved station leaves town. In fact, I felt that loss when 1590 AM Relevant Radio ended their Catholic broadcasting last year. So my sympathies to everyone who is upset that WAMO is gone. But I hope we can judge the new station on its own merits. For me, this is similar to the station I love returning, but I hear the programming will be original, so I am hoping it will be as good or better than Relevant Radio. One thing is for sure, the signal will be much stronger and have the potential to reach far more people. Let us pray for the success of this station. I think it will be a tremendous blessing for Western PA!

It’s great to again hear the sounds of solid gold soul return to the airwaves in Pittsburgh on AM 860. I was listening today to Brother Matt, who’s on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. playing the likes of the Delphonics, Barry White, etc., and I’m grateful to have such a station back. It’s not exactly WAMO AM, but is close enough.

I totally agree with Mike Burhill. I too felt a great loss when Relevant Radio ended their broadcast in Pittsurgh last year. I am really excited about WAOB FM radio…. and thank God for that. I have been waiting for that station to start and I love it. I hope more programs will be added soon with our Lord’s guidance…. including CATHOLIC ANSWERS LIVE which is an excellent call-in radio program of educating the public about what the Catholic Church really believes and teaches, not what many mistakenly believe it does. I am very thankful for the strong signal… and I have been spreading the word about WAOB and praying for the Lord to bless it in a very special way. Thanks be to God… and to those who had the vision to start it. Thank you so much… and may God richly bless you!
NOTE to those of you who criticize this station out of fanaticism… pse realize that this is NOT a Christian way of being, thinking or acting. Remember the 1st and 2nd commandments that our Lord gave us: Love of God and neighbor, before anything else…
Thank you Bishop Lawrence Brandt… and Peace to all.
