'DVE / ESPN 970 renews with Steelers
Pittsburgh: It was announced Friday on the "DVE Morning Show" by Art Rooney II that the Pittsburgh Steelers have renewed their radio play by play contract with Clear Channel stations WDVE 102.5 and "ESPN 970" WBGG for the next five seasons. The stations have carried the Black & Gold since 1998, which has helped 'DVE stay at the top or near the top of the ratings. Of course, there may not be an NFL season if an agreement with the owners and players union cannot be reached before the status of the 2011 season goes in jeopardy later this year.Readers’ Forum
I was hoping beyond hope The Fan would become the Steelers’ flagship station, partially because The Fan is an all-sports station, partially became ‘DVE is not and an equal part because I don’t think anyone should be required to genuflect before the long overrated ‘DVE. Then again, maybe it will pick up the Pirates when the current agreement with WPGB runs out. One can only hope.

“I don’t think anyone should be required to genuflect before the long overrated ‘DVE.” Thank you for echoing my thoughts, and (I’m certain) the thoughts of others. It is my hope that the Steelers have no season, if only so ‘DVE doesn’t reap the benefits.

Nothing changes…all 3 major pro sports in town are all on Clear Channel stations. Two best sports talkers in town (Savran, Madden) on Clear Channel stations. Anyone notice a trend here? The worst is on that rare time I want to listen to a baseball game I have to wander through the slop that is WGOP...I mean WPGB.

I make a point of not listening to Clear Channel radio stations. 970 has been a low-rated also-ran for years, and if they do any better it will only be because 1250 gave up.
