Uh-oh...93.7 is up to something...
Pittsburgh: We tip our hat to Mike who informed us this morning that 93.7 The Zone is no more. As of 11:00 AM, the website is still up, but the station is playing a mixture of Christmas music - Andy Williams as one types. Breakers playing in between each song says that The Zone is no more and asking if you know what's missing in "Pitts-urgh". Now go to www.pitts-urgh.com and take your guess. Well, some people have already guessed that a "B" is missing from Pittsburgh. Other observers have noted that Shelly Duffy seems to be missing from KDKA after a "new entertainment reporter" was introduced on the KDKA Morning News the other day. In the meantime, enjoy your Christmas music until 5 PM this Friday 10/5.Readers’ Forum
I’m really surprised that they are not going to drag out the All Christmas format & make the change after Christmas. The change might have actually gained some listeners who like the holiday fare early. I can usually pull in the station on my HD receiver at home & found the station interesting. Then again, I also liked “The Tube” which is also no more. I wonder if “The Comedy Zone” on their HD sub channel is also gone. I’ll be checking if I can pull in the digital side.

I thought Dennis Miller was having fun when I tuned in today and heard “Little Drummer Boy.” Miller’s show was great. I hope some other station in Pittsburgh picks it up.

I think that McIntire and Paulsen really did a great job trying to make this format work…but they must have been just swamped with prep and production. To do that much comedy and other material on a regular basis requires a ton of work….particularly if you’re going to keep the quality high.
Sorry to see if go. Both of those guys (I won’t miss Dennis Miller) are top notch talents and it seems like there HAS to be a place for them in this city!

This sucks – Dennis and Salman offered the only intelligent radio commentary offered in the Burgh. I was really disappointed to learn the station pulled the plug after just five months. Paulsen was OK – grew on me, and while I think McIntyre has talent, his show was way too juvenile for the time slot – and much of the comedy way too obvious.
And this was pulled for some new type of “Bob” format? Hell, why not just have a web page where people can enter songs and the station plays them – that would make more sense. “Bob” is a joke when compared to the old freeform radio of late 60s/early 70s, or even the punkier/new wave stations of the late 80s/early 90s.
There seems no alternative for people who can’t stand the far-right of 104.7 or the far left of… wait, do we even have Air America here? Anyway, when I tuned off 93.7 and switched to Glenn Beck he was ranting about Columbus’ discovery of America being divine intervention… at which point I simply decided “quiet” was a good option.
It’s a sad day for Pittsburgh radio.

I was finally able to pull in WTZN’s second HD channel & “The Comedy Zone” is still on in Pittsurgh. The missing “B” could stand for “Before Christmas 94” and retains the format until New Years Day. OK, that’s a stretch :-)

I was a member of the staff at WDTV & KDKA-TV from Sept. 1950 to April of1959. Though, I left Pgh. for my new job, i was able to return from time-to-time. It’s been any years since my last visit and upon learning of the passing of Johnny Costa and Cordic & Co. I realize that I am not te immortal I thought I was when I was 20. Would it be possible to learn who of our geriatric set is still around? Any help you can offer would be appreciated
