Jack Tirak passes away at 64
Erie-Meadville: Breaking News: It is with great sadness that I have to write this article. News just came in that long time advertising executive with "Engel & Tirak" and "Erie Media Go Round" blog creator Jack Tirak has passed away this afternoon of natural causes. I only met Jack a few years ago with e-mails when he started his blog and we always enjoyed sharing thoughts about the Erie media and his mission to get all of Erie's TV stations to broadcast in High Definition. He definitely had passion as you could see in his almost daily blog entries. While we both "competed" on different blogs, it was always a fun rivalry which made both of us better writers. More news as we receive it plus your thoughts and memories are welcome. On behalf of all of us here at PBRTV.com, our condolences go out to the family of Jack Tirak. Godspeed My Friend.Readers’ Forum

Dearest Mary and children,
I am stunned and so saddened by your loss…Jack was a mentor, colleague and dear friend. It is so ironic that Jack would join his good friend Frank Vogt so soon. I’m certain they are together again. I regret that I wasn’t able to take Jack up on his invitation many years ago to go to the Indy 500 in his RV….that would have been priceless. He is missed and always will be. May he rest in peace….Godspeed Jack. God bless you Mary, your family and Jack’s legions of friends.Truly a great loss for the community.

Mary and family,
Linda and I send our condolences to you.
We havent been in contact with the Erie market since 1990 when we moved to Detroit, Michigan. However with my years in Erie at WRIE/WLKK/WLVU and in Franklin at WFRA for almost 20 years, we had great times together. When Jack went skydiving for the first time and broke his leg, I spread a lot of jokes about that to other reps and Jack loved it. When he had is brain surgery, I told him afterwards that I had to pay the doctors a tone of money to reprogram him to spend more money on my stations, I thought his stiches would pop from laughing….and of course, he was my sponsor in the Erie Cursillo movement. Jack’s sense of humor was great and our friendships we will always cherish. In all honesty, I have never met a finer man in character, faith, ethics and everything good.
Although our jobs have separated us for 20 years, we want you to know that we miss all of you. And his loss hurts us too.
