Paulsen & Savran head to 1250
Pittsburgh:After several weeks of filling in for Fred Honsberger at KDKA, Scott Paulsen is headed to Ardmore Boulevard. Paulsen will be part of a three-man team filling in the 3-7 p.m. slot emptied after Mark Madden was fired. Joining Paulsen are Eddy Crow who moves from the mid-days and former Steelers defensive back Mike Logan. The new programs should be in place, assuming contracts are finalized, Monday, August 4.
There are several "full circle" situations with this move.
- Stan Savran will be reunited with Guy Junker for the first time since the program they hosted together on FSN.
- Savran has filled in on a part-time basis on 1250 for Junker or Crow. He had a long-time program on 1250 WTAE which began in the early '80s. (He would later work at Fox Sports 970 where he was later canned.)
- Paulsen and Crow will be reunited too. Crow used to do sports during the morning show at WDVE.

I could be wrong, Eric, but I think that’s Stan “Savran.” Either that or I have it spelled wrong in my story today.

Correction made Pat. Sorry, it was late when I posted that!

Shucks . . . I was hoping that Paulsen would stay at KDKA and get a full-time gig replacing either Marty Griffin or Kevin Miller . . . two of the most boring talkers I have ever heard.

Eric, add one more item to your full circle…
Scott Paulson returns to the studios 400 Ardmore Blvd for the first time in about 20 years. Remember, he was a DJ 96.1 when the calls were WHTX and its name was Hit Radio 96. The years of working there is what allowed Scott to give us his famous Paul Long impersonation that would go great with Jim Krenn’s Joe De Nardo impersonation.

I thought Paulsen worked with Krenn at WDVE and that is where they did their famous Paul Long and Joe DeNardo impersonations. Right? I was hoping he would stay at the Big K too. Maybe even on the overnight shift. I don’t understand why KD promotes their hometown or home grown talk shows when they pipe in Bill O’Reilly at 10 p.m. and then Dennis Miller (okay, he is home grown) and these shows are not even live for local listeners (if there are any) to call in. Bring back Gary Dickson!!!!! Hey does anyone know if Smacky the Clown is still around and the Cookie Lady as well?

Chuck is correct – Scott started at WHTX back in (circa) 1986, then left for the long term stint at WDVE shortly after Jimmy & Steve left for their (very short) job at a Florida station. I remember when Scott would occasionally sub on WTAE’s bingo program they had at the time. Very odd to have him on there! But during that time frame, Scott could have captured the voice of the infamous Paul Long to immiate him. Don’t know if he did it while at WDVE. Hope that Scott works out in his new job.

This should be a real win for ESPN/1250. Scott Paulsen is a proven radio talent who has had the misfortune to be placed in some very bad situations since he left WDVE. He was the only thing worth listening too on the “man station”, and how he was able to do a show with John Steigerwald on KDKA for more than 10 minutes before going insane will remain an inspiration to all. Plus Stan n’ Guy are reunited..

Wonder if Scott will resurrect his “Spit, Choke and Puke’s Big World of Sports”, that he did on Stan’s show on Fox 970 in the early part on the “oughts”? Kudos to ESPN 1250 all around.

Sorry, meant “the early part OF the “oughts”. Not enough caffeine today.
