WYNE is back on the air

Erie-Meadville: Good News for listeners of WYNE, I received an e-mail from Captain Dan with the news that WYNE 1530 has returned to the dial as of 7 this morning (8/8/08). He also states that they will also have the streaming audio back sometime today. (http://northeast.mercyhurst.edu/wyne.asx) It took a lot of work to get the station back on the air which included replacing the station's antenna. The transmitter was also moved into a much smaller building since the former building where it was located will probably be demolished after the arson last week. The Captain also tells me that the are hoping more businesses will advertise with the station. If interested, you can contact him at 725-WYNE.

C’mon guys…a bad root canal doesn’t mean having to set the place on fire and knocking radio stations off the air!

Unfortunately, the thefts and arson had nothing to do with a bad visit to the dentist. Just some kids who decided to break in and destroy someone else’s property. As a result, a business now has to relocate since they have no plans to rebuild and a radio station is scrambling to find ways to serve it’s audience and community in a few days. A part of radio history going back to the mid 1960’s is no more because of some troubled youngsters who only thought about what they wanted.

Did you hear anything about when the station is going to resume broadcasting? I would like to try listening in despite the fact that I’m not an oldies fan.

Hopefully, Arbitron will publish the numbers for Erie soon. It’s about that time again, and I have been checking daily. The ratings will be interesting because I would like to see how WYNE does along with the AM sports stations. ESPN Radio WRIE AM 1260 The Score has added a local sports show since the last book and AM 1330 The Fan returned just before the Fall ratings were finished, also with a local sports show plus play-by-play sports action. Will BOB hold on and maintain his audience? Finally, which competitors will win their battles since it seems like every two stations in Erie have a similar format?

As I understand it, WYNE will have to move it’s transmitter into a much smaller building plus some damaged equipment has to be replaced including the antenna. I too am waiting for the numbers for Erie to come out. With two sports stations, it surprises me that The Fan no longer carries the Steelers with their games now on WJET 1400. Even more surprising is that the Browns are without an Erie radio affiliate for the second year in a row unless something changes before the regular season kicks off.

Tom: According to Arbitron’s website, the ratings for Erie will not be released until August 12th or 13th (about one week from today, Aug. 5th).

Hopefully, WYNE will be back on-the-air soon, serving the local oldies fans. Do they have to replace the transmitter?
