WTAE celebrates 50
Pittsburgh:PBRTV notes that WTAE-TV (4) is actually showing the classic news promos we remember so well. WTAE, Pittsburgh's 3rd VHF channel, turns 50 years old this year and the classic promos are part of the celebration. This 1983 clip has played a few times.
For what it's worth, we can hardly wait to see these 1976 classics.

Fifty years ago, didn’t Channel 4 have a much taller tower than they do presently? I have vague recollections of their signal at one time being more substantial to the north than it is now.

Re:The Action 4 News ads-1976
WEWS-TV 5 in Cleveland did these exact same promos..Down to the same staff person saying “Here’s the Script!” for Eyewitness News with Dave Patterson and Ted Henry in the mid-late 1970’s.

Ditto above comment! I was having a serious case of deja-vu when I looked at these and just KNEW I had seen them before on some other station, was just trying to remember which one!

Also:The Ad set in the “diner” for the 6:00 and 11:00 Channel 4 news..WEWS also did a similar ad for the Noon Eyewitness News with Joel Rose, Jenny Crimm, Liz Richards and Dorothy Fuldhime..They were very enjoyable..humanized the news people quite a bit..

Sally Wiggin in a diner? Talk about having fun. I’m sure they have more ads than the ones they’re showing this week. Someone needs to wake up their archives ASAP!
