A fresh, new look for 27 First News
Youngstown: After 10 years of planning and 15 years with the same light blue news set, WKBN has finally updated it's on air look. The new set has more Earth friendly colors like brown & red. In addition, the station is now using different graphics as well as fonts to compliment the new look. They are also using the same graphics on the WYTV weather channel on 33-3. According to station sources, the upgrades were necessary and will help to transition the station into the digital age. (Could an HD newscast be far behind?) You can also see the same set used for WYFX during their hour long 10pm newscast. In addition to the new updates, the station now has a new weather website at http://www.myvalleyweather.com/ which looks somewhat like The Weather Channel at first glance.Readers’ Forum
I checked it out today, looks like they’re intergrating WYTV more and more into WKBN/WYFX with 33.3 being designed to resemble the new on-air look for WKBN/WYFX as well as sharing the weather & sports websites. WYFX also has a new logo that is similar to the new WKBN logo but in blue & yellow. I guess the logo they just started using in August was just an interim logo after they dropped the “Fox 17/62” moniker for “Fox Youngstown”. WKBN badly needed the change and I like the new logo incorporating the “WKBN” lettering from the old WKBN building, I wonder if WYTV & myYTV will follow suit with the new logos as well. Overall I like the “layered block” look that they’re going with everything, modern yet simple. I find it ironic though that despite the combined resources of the two the mom-and-pop operated WFMJ is STILL the market leader.
