Bumblebee Slim saying goodbye to the airwaves

August 19, 2011 Off By Eric O'Brien

Fans of longtime WYEP-FM (91.3) blues host Bumblebee Slim (also known as Howard Kozy) will be sad to learn that his last show is on August 27. Bumblebee Slim has been a volunteer host with the station for 25 years hosting the weekly “Blues and Rhythm” airing from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

“I had done most of the things I had set out to do,” he told the Post-Gazette, “Spotlight the local blues scene and introduce the listening audience to the national blues scene.” For his final program, Mr. Kozy will air excerpts from some of the interviews he’s done over the years. Meanwhile Wrett Weatherspoon’s “Big Town Blues” will move to the 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. slot beginning September 3 and another locally-produced blues show will be hosted by Rob O’Friel from 9:00 – Midnight.
