Calkins’ area regional papers sold

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the New Media Investment Group, the parent of GateHouse Media announced today the sale of The Beaver County Times, The Ellwood City Ledger, the Bucks County Courier Times, The Intelligencer from Doylestown and the operations of Calkins Digital Group from Calkins Media. New Media is expected to pay $17.5 million in a deal that includes a press facility and all related websites. This deal is expected to close within 30 days. New media focuses on small to mid-sized markets and has 130 daily publications and over 500 websites.

Separately Calkins media announced agreed to sell the Uniontown Herald-Standard, The Greene County Messenger – a weekly paper, and SWC Properties to Ogden Newspapers. Ogden operates over 40 daily papers and its CEO is Pittsburgh Pirates owner Robert Nutting.
