It was announced today that the Stockholders of Citadel Broadcasting have approved the merger of the company with Cumulus Media. The FCC and the Department of Justice have given their okays, however Cumulus must divest 3 stations in two markets – Flint, Michigan and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Within the PBRTV coverage area, Citadel owns Erie stations: WQHZ-FM (102.3), WRIE-AM (1260), WXKC-FM (99.9), and WXTA-FM (97.9 Edinboro). Meanwhile, Cumulus owns Youngstown-area stations WBBW-AM (1240), WWIZ-FM (103.9 Mercer, PA), WLLF-FM (96.7 Mercer, PA), WHOT-FM (101.1) WPIC-AM (790 Sharon, PA) WYFM-FM (102.9 Sharon, PA), WSOM-AM (600 Salem) and WQXK-FM (105.1 Salem).

Meanwhile, FCC Chairmain Michael Copps is not happy with the decision. “Time after time and market after market, there are fewer independent options and fewer local voices,” he said in a statement.
