Former radio personality victim of crime

An in-home care worker surrendered Monday on charges that she stole more than $65,000 from former radio personality Kathy Kerestes. Kerestes, known for her work as a news anchor for the O’Brien and Garry morning show on WTAE-AM (1250) in the 1980s, suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and is wheelchair bound. She had set up an online banking account earlier in the year and allowed the care taker, Helen Thorne, to use the bank card to get money for medication, but only allowed her to access $100.00 at a time. Instead, Thorne allegedly used the card to make ATM withdrawls larger than the $100.00 limit at locations like the Rivers Casino and the Waterfront in Homestead. The Post-Gazette reports that the unauthorized withdrawls went unnoticed because Kerestes was not receiving bank statements in the mail.
