BobbyBennett2015Pittsburgh native Bobby Bennett has died. The 72-year-old had spent the last month or so in a coma after suffering a stroke. Bennett started his career at WAMO-AM (then at 860 Homestead) before relocating to Washington, DC and WOL-AM in 1968. While in DC he also worked at WTOP and WHUR. He also worked in the record industry, first for EMI and later IEP Records. He also programmed the Soul Street channel for XM Radio back in DC. Bennett and his wife, Connie retired to Florida a few years ago. Funeral arrangements are pending.

  1. I Remember Listing to Bobby on WZUM 1590. Bobby’s Cousin Bruce Once told me That the Program Director of WOL Was Driving Across the Pa Turnpike, Tuneing his Radio and Came Across WZUM 1590 While Bobby was on. Pulled off to a Rest Stop Called Bobby At the radio Station and Offered Him A Job.
