Funeral services were held today for noted radio DJ Jerry Braverman. Braverman passed away from complications of Multiple Sclerosis on February 5 at age 65. The White Oak resident spent years on McKeesport stations WIXZ-AM (1360) and WEDO-AM (810) before he became a Saturday night fixture on WLSW-FM (103.9) Scottdale. Although Braverman had not been on the air in recent months, WLSW owner Stan Wall kept his show on the air with other DJs filling in. He told the Trib, “I felt it would encourage Jerry to get better and give him something to strive for, to give him the strength to get through the MS.”

DJ work was not the only thing Braverman did. He once worked for his father’s Wilkinsburg company, Braverman Arms. He served time as a Forest Hills policeman and owned Swissvale Video and Braverman Enterprises. The latter company sold vintage vinyl recordings.
