Jack Benedict has been on the air for 50 years. At age 19, he got his start at WCVI in Connellsville and spent seven years there as a play-by-play announcer for Connellsville High School, prep basketball and baseball. In 1969 he moved to Indiana, Pennsylvania where he worked at WDAD-AM for 20 years, WCCS for 15 years there after and now works for both stations under Renda Broadcasting’s ownership. Since 1969, Benedict predicts that he has delivered 50,000 morning sports reports over the two stations. He has also been the only football and basketball play-by-play at Indiana University of Pennsylvania during that time. Chauncey Ross of the Indiana Gazette sat down with Benedict to learn and hear stories about his long career that shows no signs of stopping.
