WPXI-TV (11) anchor Todd McDermott has departed the station for WPBF, a Hearst station in West Palm Beach, Florida. The move was a personal decision for McDermott who wanted to be closer to family living in the Sunshine state. He will be anchoring the evening newscasts. Meanwhile, WPXI has hired Joe Arena from Buffalo’s WIVB-TV to co-host the early morning newscast with Jennifer Abney and the noon news with Peggy Finnegan. (PG)

KDKA-TV (2) starts up its Turkey Fund with morning anchors Rick Dayton and Jennifer Antkowiak heading up the campaign. The campaign started in 1982 when a woman approached KDKA Commentator Al Julius asking him to take her $10.00 bill for a family who couldn’t afford a real Thanksgiving. The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank reports that nearly $13 million has been raised over the 30 years. This year GPCFB suggests a $15.00 donation per family in need.

WAMO-AM (660; W261AX 100.1 FM) will do a live broadcast from Penn State Greater Allegheny’s Student Community Center. Students will find airstaff members at the McKeesport campus on October 18 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

McKeesport Daily News reporter Pat Cloonan mentioned earlier this week that Clear Channel hired Gregg Henson to program WPGB-FM (104.7) and WBGG-AM (970). Henson has worked in Texas, Philadelphia, Detroit and Fort Wayne.
