Dick Morris Collection

Dick Morris says: “I was part time at 13Q and WSHH and mostly filled Friday nights midnight to 6 AM and Sunday mornings six to noon. I was 19 years old and like many had my eyes set on KDKA radio. At 21 I actually did receive an offer for part time on KDKA  – but decided to go to college in Tennessee instead, where I still reside.” (You might know Dick better as voiceover artist Fox Oliver – foxoliver.com.) Dick posted these to the Facebook group Radio Broadcasting History and agreed to let us post them to PBRTV!

Mr. Morris says, "All carts were set up to properly use the tones: one spotlight blanked 3× 10 seconds before the end, and the second one came on steady at finish."

WSHH-FM {Kossman Building} studio. Notice the VU's are clearly marked at 40 so as not to run commercials above that level. The two reel-to-reels were on mobile racks behind me.

While we were posting the above photos, former WSHH chief engineer Craig Kopcho posted these photos of some of the equipment at the station’s Crane Avenue studios in a response to the Facebook posting of the pictures above. Craig worked there when Nationwide Communications owned the stations. (This is some of the equipment that a young Eric O’Brien got to learn on as an intern!)
