R.I.P. – Mel Hall and Tom Lyons

Jeff Roteman reported that former KQV/WTAE/WEDO and WPNT personality Tom Schrecengost, Sr. passed away Sunday, October 16 at Grove City Medical Center. He was best known as “Tom Lee” at KQV-AM (1410) and “Tom Lyons” at WTAE-AM (1250). Schrecengost retired in 1996 after a career that, in addition to Pittsburgh, took him from his home in the Kittanning area to Erie, Connecticut, California and Arizona. He was 77.

Mel Hall passed away October 10 after fighting with illness. Mel showed up at KQV and Pittsburgh in 1961 (50 years ago come November 1) to serve as the station’s program director and evening jock. He would leave the station and the area less than a year later to head to San Diego. He was 80 when he passed.
