WPXI-TV (11) picked up a false story during its early morning newscast on Wednesday. The Post-Gazette reports that the station reported a story that Pittsburgh Steeler Hines Ward had signed with the Baltimore Ravens. The report came from BroCouncil.com – a Pittsburgh-based website which describes itself as providing, “a fun, humorous, and informative website for men.” The website is not specifically an all-spoof site like The Onion, but occasionally runs such stories. WPXI news director Mike Goldrick blamed the “world of lightning-quick information” for the gaffe. “We promise to be more vigilant and tighter measures have been put in place,” he said.
