It was announced Friday that an independent, Pittsburgh-based but nationally-distributed radio programming service called “PubMusic” will release a hosted 24-hour jazz service on August 1. The new service is being headed up by former ‘DUQ engineer and station voice Chuck Leavens and will be made up of several former DUQ staffers including Tony Mowod, Evelynn Hawkins, John Lasanich, former PD Dave Becker and former GM Scott Hanley. Some new voices include Bobby Jackson and Joan Swanson.

According to the blog, www.secondmostlikelytosucceed.com, the “PubMusic” group has additional plans to offer online jazz programming at pittsburghjazzchannel.net.

“Jazz lives,” says the post, “Pittsburgh sure as hell was never going to let it die.”
