The Summit grows on WKTL

For years, Struthers high school station WKTL 90.7 was a place for students to learn about the radio business and some volunteers to bring some Ethnic shows to the Valley on the 13,500 watt signal which started back in 1965. These days the station has become a simulcast partner to Akron area Adult Alternative station WAPS 91.3, known as “91.3 The Summit”. That station is owned by Akron Public School and has served the Akron / Canton area for years and can be heard online at www.913thesummit.com. In addition, the station also carries two other HD channels in the area and online as well. The first is “Summit Flashbacks”, which focuses on 80’s Alternative and the second is “KidJam” which features songs geared towards kids. The Youngstown station does carry the Flashbacks channel on Sundays since WKTL does not broadcast in HD. As of this time, it’s not clear if they will add HD for the Mahoning Valley.
