Urban returning to Pittsburgh

February 21, 2011 Off By Eric O'Brien

Martz Communications has posted a job ad for an experienced Urban format PD on several sites over the weekend. The PD would program the company’s new Pittsburgh venture which is WPYT-AM (660) and its up and coming FM translator W261AX (100.1). 660 is a 1400 watt daytimer licensed to Wilkinsburg airing from a Forest Hills tower. The translater has a construction permit to boost to 99 watts from the same Perrysville Avenue (Grizella Street) KDKA-TV site.

The Urban format hasn’t been on the air in Pittsburgh since WAMO-AM/FM (860/106.7) were sold by Sheridan Broadcasting to St. Joseph Missions in 2009.
