WAVL-AM still on air; working with potential buyers

Although back in February they expected to be off the air by March, Evangel Heights Church has managed to keep WAVL-AM (910 Apollo) on the air. According to a Tribune-Review report, the church is considering several “promising” offers to purchase the station. The church bought the station in 2001 and hoped to turn it into a ministry which would generate revenue for missions and community projects. The station was originally “Praise 910” and served up a Contemporary Christian music format. Competition came along and the music station became a conservative talk outlet.

Officials at the station have managed to take annual expenses down from the original $100,000, but finances are still a struggle. Nonetheless, the church would like to sell or lease the station. They are ignoring offers from people who simply want to take the license off their hands.
