DeAnne Hamilton has been named President and General Manager of Essential Public Radio’s WESA-FM (90.5), the former WDUQ. Hamilton is no stranger to public broadcasting and ran such operations at  WKAR-FM in East Lansing, Michigan and KQED-TV in San Francisco, California. She also worked in TV news at KATU-TV in Portland, Oregon and KPIX-TV in San Francisco. She also serves as a member of the Editorial Integrity for Public Media Steering Committee and, until recently, sat on the PBS Board of Directors.

Hamilton hopes to build a news service to fulfill the need for people to be informed about Pittsburgh. “Broadcasting in recent years has gotten into sound bite journalism, and we need to instead focus on what public radio does best – to allow all of us to hear, listen and participate,” she said. She will start her new position on October 17, 2011.
