WLFP reportedly up for sale

Patrick Cloonan reports in today’s McKeesport Daily News (not online) that WLFP-AM (1550 Braddock) is up for sale for $225,000 by Business TalkRadio Network. BTRN has owned the station since March 2007 when it purchaced then-WURP from Inner City. Network CEO Michael Metter claims that the community never rallied to support the station calling it a tough market to make a business.

The broker for the sale said BTRN is looking for a “cash only” deal and will not consider leasing the 1000 watt daytimer (4-watt nighttime). The deal includes the tower site along Yost Boulevard in Forest Hills. A long-term tenant is included with the tower. Ironically that’s Martz Communications who recently purchased WPYT-AM (660 Wilkinsburg) which operates from that same tower.

WLFP’s 4-watt nighttime power protects CBE-1550 in Windsor, Ontario. The restriction will remain in effect for the Braddock-licensed station even if the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation shuts down CBE which may happen as early as September.
