WTAE expands noon news

October 29, 2010 Off By Eric O'Brien

After airing “Access Hollywood” each day at 12:30 p.m. in what appeared to be a gigantic delay, WTAE-TV (4) has replaced the tabloid program with an additional half hour of news. The move comes as WTAE expanded its morning newscast to begin at 4:30 a.m. So far, it appears that WTAE is the only local station to make the change and very little hype has been made about the change making one wonder if its temporary.

The last time WTAE had an hour-long program at noon, it wasn’t news. It was called “Good Day Pittsburgh” hosted by Ann Devlin in the early 1990s.

UPDATE: Since posting this article, we’ve heard that the move was to accommodate more political ads and that the run of news from 12:30 – 1:00 p.m. is short-lived.
