WZUM equipment sold and removed

January 6, 2011 Off By Eric O'Brien

T. S. Eliot said the world will end “not with a bang but a whimper.” It was a whimper for WZUM-AM (1590), Carnegie PA on December 28th when Engineer Randy Dietterich removed the transmitter and rack from the shed at the 3-tower site in Crafton Borough, adjacent to Pittsburgh. Under the supervision of local Media Broker Ray Rosenblum, Mr. Dietterich bought the salvageable equipment from Believe And Achieve Family And Educational Center [Katrina Chase], the last licensee of WZUM. The Crafton Council gave the station until January 10, 2011 to remove its equipment, despite offers to bring the delinquent rent up to date and move studios to Crafton. Crafton personnel are expected to bring down the 3-tower array. WZUM went dark on March 22, 2010. After a year of silence the station loses its license.
