Banana Don… retires… yet never ages!

August 30, 2020 Off By Eric O'Brien

In a post to his millions of fans this evening, Banana Don Jefferson who rose to local fame on B-94 (WBZZ 93.7) in the 1980s and then moved over to WZPT (100.7 New Kensington) and later WSHH (99.7) before skipping town, announced his retirement. Says he…

Banana Don Jefferson (we don’t know why his picture did this… but it really is him.)

Breaking news: Guess who doesn’t have to wake up tomorrow morning at ‘O Dark Thirty’ to do a morning show? This guy – that’s who.
I join a long but VERY distinguished list of former morning show DJs friends here on Facebook as I got ‘retired’ Friday morning. Yep – I really am hanging up the headphones after (IMO) one hell of a run. I will now just be Michelle’s head pool boy. (Fun fact – we don’t even own a pool)
Seriously- this is a good thing. Now, I‘ll be spending more time with my grandson Bash, doing some writing I’ve put off for too long and sometimes, cooking dinner for Michelle. (She gets two choices – pancakes and beer or steak and beer.)

Thanks to everyone who’s been a part of the last 45 years on the radio. Hope to see or talk to you soon.
And to quote Mister Rogers:

‘Often when you think you’re at the end of something, you’re at the beginning of something else.’

Bring. It. On.

Banana Don has spent the last several years at WITL (100.7) in Lansing, Michigan who obviously decided to set him (and apparently his morning show partner) free.

Congratulations Don! If you think Don should be a guest on out podcast, send him $50 and be really nice to him! Seriously though, we’ll do it for free!
