“Captain Dan” passes away

March 4, 2022 Off By Eric O'Brien

Sad news out of Erie this morning as we have learned that long-time radio voice “Captain Dan” Geary passed away this week. His voice was well-known in Erie during a career in radio that spanned over 50 years. His latest post was on the morning show at WMCE (88.5) formerly owned by Mercyhurst College, but now owned by LECOM. Geary got his start at WWGO in Erie followed by hosting and programming gigs at other stations in town.

ErieNewsNow is reporting Geary was 72. No cause of death was given. YourErie reports he is survived by his wife and four children.

On a personal note: Although we never met, I will miss the annual “Happy Birthday, Eric! … as heard this morning on WMCE 88.5” message each year. The Captain was one of the good guys in our business and had a passion for it. To say he will be missed is an understatement.
