Former Pittsburgh DJ Dave Shedlock Dies
January 30, 2026
One of Pittsburgh’s most familiar radio voices from the 70’s and 80’s has passed away.
Dave Shedlock, best known for his tenure at WLSW in Connellsville and then at WYDD in Pittsburgh, died Monday, January 26th following a battle with cancer.
Shedlock, a Donora native, graduated from California University of Pennsylvania (now Penn West) with a degree in communications. His first job was at WLSW in 1979, according to Joe Gearing, who worked there with him.
“You couldn’t have asked for a nicer person, kind and generous to me, my family and all that knew him,” said Gearing in a Facebook post.
“He was a radio brat and a good friend,” said Mike Kirven, who worked with Shedlock at WYDD.
Brent Weiner, who worked alongside Shedlock at WYDD, also had words of affection for his old friend.
“We had some great times together,” said Weiner. “His parties on July 4th were epic.”
Shedlock, however, grew tired of the business and returned to his alma mater to complete another degree, which led to a career at Westinghouse and Zoll Corporation, where he retired from this past January.
Shedlock was unmarried at the time of his death and had no children. He was 68. He was laid to rest today at St. Dominick Cemetery in Donora.
