WTAE-TV (4) is reporting that long-time chief meteorologist Joe DeNardo has died at age 87. He had his own weather reporting service providing service to KDKA and later hired at WTAE-TV in 1969. DeNardo was so well respected that WTAE called it the “DeNardo Weather Center”. “Joe said it would!” became the catchphrase in the 1980s when Joe was known for his beloved Wednesday school visits.

DeNardo was known for his charity work with Special Olympics and the Salvation Army. He was part of the team to start Project Bundle-up for WTAE.

According to reports, DeNardo had been in and out of the hospital the last few months before his death.
