January 12, 2023 Off By Eric O'Brien

World Radio Day is held annually on February 13 to commemorate the birth of United Nations Radio in 1946. The official international day was proclaimed by the 36th UNESCO General Conference in 2011 and adopted by the 67th UN General Assembly in 2012. This award is given to stations of any size and any market where ideals of localism, audience reach, community service, uses of newer technology, and content are effectively put into play.

This year’s award goes to KDKA (1020; W261AX 100.1) and is only the fourth annual award given to a station in the United States. The station was recognized as the oldest licensed radio station in America.
