WJFA (910 Apollo) was the first station to go down in last week’s wild weather. But it wasn’t due to the high winds we had on Tuesday. According to Patrick Cloonan at The Indiana Gazette, it happened the day before when lightning struck and blew out the transmitter’s power boards – both of them – at the Kiskiminetas Township site. If it hasn’t returned already, it’s expected to return any time now. WJFA’s translator (W254CR – 98.7 Latrobe) as well as sister station WJFG (1480 Latrobe) and it’s translator (W298DH – 107.5 Latrobe).

Cloonan also said Renda’s WCCS (1160 Homer City) was off the air for three days following the wicked storms. Renda’s country-formatted WLCY (106.3 Blairsville) was off the air just a little longer.

In the Ohio Valley, WTOV (9, Steubenville) reportedly received some damage to a transmitter unit still in place from when the WSTV-AM/FM days. Nothing affected the TV operation for what once was WSTV-TV.
