Tidbits
July 1, 2025We were on vacation last week and we had a couple of big stories break during that time. But we had a couple of smaller ones too.
- We reported it back in April, but now Forever Media has completed the sale of WOHI (1490) East Liverpool to Ohio Midland Newsgroup, LLC. The sale included 1490’s FM translator W280FL (103.9 East Liverpool. Right now they’re simulcasting WOMP (100.5 Bellaire). Thanks to alert Ohio Valley reader Jason R. for the discovery!
- The Polka on-air world has lost another member of its tribe in Li’l John Nalevanko who died last week after a brief illness and hospital stay. Nalevanko was on the air for the better part of 4, if not 5, decades. He was most recently heard Saturday mornings on Westmoreland stations WJFA and WJFG. (Hat tip: Nick M.)

Just an FYI, the plan for WOHI will be to simulcast Johnny O’s show every morning and at 10am WOHI will run separate from WOMP. Both stations will play greatest hits. House Party will air on WOMP and WOHI every Friday and Saturday night. We are working out all the technical. Also 94.9 will simulcast Rivertalk, currently airing on 1430 WEIR.
I like small ownership like this, someone with one, or a few stations in an area, and I’m glad that not every station has been snapped up by the big guys for boring nationwide formats.
I just tuned in 1430 and heard a segment on Rivertalk, the host talking to a Florida representative about ‘Alligator Alcatraz’. Couldn’t pick it up on 1490 WOHI though, there are two stations fighting it out, both seem to be music. Years ago WOHI used to come in better, I could pick it up on a clock radio. I’m in Pittsburgh.
