WQED drops more employees

July 30, 2025 Off By Eric O'Brien

After releasing five employees in May, WQED has eliminated 19 more positions as of Wednesday. According to WQED president Jason Jedlinski, the layoffs are a result of the recent elimination of federal funding for public broadcasting.

The station did receive its 2025 funding of $1.8 million for the fiscal year ending September 30. But Jedlinski did not answer questions as to why the layoffs happened now or if others took pay cuts according to Trib writer Rob Owen. But those who left today will be paid through the end of the week and receive a severance and benefits through the end of 2025.

The station will still absorb new expenses in 2026 as grants from other federal agencies will also not be available.
