National Weather Service to use lower case

April 12, 2016 Off By Eric O'Brien

The National Weather Service is catching up with the times. Beginning May 11, the agency is going to start using lower case letters in their forecasts. The weather service has been using all upper case since 1849 because of the telegraph technology. They tired to phase it out about 20 years ago, but old equipment still in use didn’t recognize lower case letters. Now, in the digital age, the use of all caps is considered SHOUTING. Caps will still be used from time to time, DURING EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS!
