November 18, 2020 Off By Eric O'Brien

Larry Richert and Kevin Battle on KDKA’s morning show talked to newsman Joe DeStio as he retires after 40 years. DeStio decided it was “time”. He has spent the last 9 years at KDKA-AM (1020) and previously WTAE-AM (1250) through its incarnation as ESPN (1250 WEAE). Between 1250 and 1020, DeStio sold real estate. His first paid job in radio was at KQV (1410) beginning in 1980 followed by some time at stations in Washington, D.C. He returned to Pittsburgh in 1988.

Mr. DeStio will continue to be Public Address announcer for Pitt Football and Basketball. Pitt was where DeStio went for his undergrad degree, but he attended Syracuse for his masters.

He intends to travel, get into music and improve his skills at golf. Hear the interview below. DeStio’s last day will be Friday, November 20.
