KDKA+ on Channel 19; WPNT will carry CW

Some people guessed it. Still others forecasted it long before the CW disaffiliation with Paramount (CBS) owned WPCW (19; DT 11 Jeannette) was announced. The channel will no longer carry a network affiliation as of 11:59 p.m. August 31. On September 1 it will identify as WPKD “Pittsburgh KDKA” and be known as “KDKA+”. Along with the locally produced news broadcasts already in place, viewers will also see other local programming such as high school sports. Syndicated programs and CBS’ “48 Hours” programs will help fill out the broadcast day.

Meanwhile, as suspected, WPNT (22; DT 21) will be the new home of The CW.

    I called the KDKA+ branding a while ago. Fox has been doing it for a few years with their MyNetworkTV stations in a few markets.

    I think it’s possible WPNT keeps its callsign and branding. They were already the home of CW Sports programming such as LIV Golf and many CW stations now use their own branding, including those owned by parent Nexstar.

      Sorry, but my sources tell me you either caught a test of the signal or some sort of error. KDKA has yet to start ASTC 3.0. They will likely announce it when they do. Nor will it be a “switch” as of yet as many viewers are still getting used to digital TV…
