Larry O’Brien dies

Just a little over six months after the death of John Garry Lindemulder comes the news that his long time radio partner, Larry O’Brien has died as well. According to Mark Roberts, from whom we’ve received this news, Larry had been in declining health for some time. He was 81 at the time of his death.

O’Brien was hired at WTAE-AM (1250) in 1972 from WCFL in Chicago and asked that Garry, who was in North Carolina, be hired as the two had worked together some years before. But it wasn’t until 1975 when O’Brien & Garry would become the station’s morning team where they developed many recurring character sketches including “Lt. Macho”, “Mr. Science” and more.

The duo would move to sister station WHTX (96.1) in 1983 and WMXP (100.7) in 1992 and finally back to WTAE-AM in 1994. Garry retired in 1997, but the duo would make occasional apperances on KDKA-AM (1020) and even filled in at WWSW (94.5) on a few occasions.
