WAVL now WXJX
December 28, 2018According to Radio Insight, the “Jack FM” format is on its way to Apollo’s 910 AM which recently became WXJX. The conservative talk format that was held by WAVL has been dropped in favor of stunting with songs with “Jack” in them.
Observer Pat Cloonan notes, “It is emphasizing FM 98.7 in its promos (not a surprise) and the on-the-hour ID has gone from ‘Apollo-Pittsburgh’ to ‘Apollo-Greensburg.’
Yes, they have been playing “Jack and Diane” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” all day as their promo songs 😀
Isn’t this Hank Baughman’s (the old ch 11 anchor from a few years back) radio station? Since I live on the West side of Allegheny County I cannot pick up either the AM or FM station. I had listed to their talk format on the AM side thru the Tune In app on the web. Can’t say I like losing another talk format station. Especially to some new trendy music format that won’t last long. The AM side will certainly not keep their present listeners with this format change. Guess it comes down to advertisers not catering to older listeners.
Could be conservative talk has lost its glow. Finally.
We all have our favorite format, but we must remember that radio is a business and the bottom line is everything.

This format stunt could have been much more interesting. For example, “Happy Jack” by the Who. “Master Jack” by Four Jacks and a Jill. Or — this would have been fun! — “Hit The Road Jack” by Ray Charles. But no. I haven’t listened to the new format, now that it’s on, and I don’t know if I will.
Looks like the Bolsheviks have successfully shut-down another free speech arena.
The Bolsheviks, eh? I think it was more a lack of profit that likely made the decision.
