WESA’s transmitter issues

December 24, 2020 Off By Eric O'Brien

It has not been a good month for the public radio stations in town. Earlier, WQED-FM (89.3) was off the air (or at low power) for several days after the transmission line was severely damaged. Things seem to be fine there now.

Now WESA (90.5) seems to have some of their own. Station manager John Sutton reports that the transmitter building on Mt. Washington suffered water damage which caused the transmitter to shut down. The signal at 90.5 is now functional at low power. The station’s FM translators at 92.3 (New Baltimore) and 104.1 (Ligonier) have been affected too. Like WQED, WESA has service to the Johnstown area with a full power FM at 100.5. It is not affected.
