What happened to Buzzr? WTAE food bank results

April 17, 2020 Off By Eric O'Brien

First this from the mailbag:

Eric, Buzzr TV seems to have vanished in Pittsburgh. Yes, I’ve re-scanned on several occasions and checked my antenna for connections, correct direction, etc. I received the station on 26.3 and continue to receive relatively weak signals like Retro. Any info would be appreciated. (I need my Match Game.)  Thanks, Doug

Doug, of whom are you a bigger fan, Brett Sommers or Charles Nelson Reilly? No matter… let’s see. Buzzr is a subchannel of one of the low-power stations in town (WOSC, Channel 61.. well actually digital Channel 26). My guess is that they might be having problems with feeding it to you or that The Video House, the station owner, may have fallen out of agreement with Freemantle who runs the channel. The station doesn’t appear to have a website or even a readily available phone number. So right now, short of driving out there and asking in person, that’s the best guess I have.

Meanwhile, Dish Network carries it, but your email leads me to believe that you don’t have anything but over the air signals. But you may also find the channel on Amazon Prime, Pluto TV or STIRR.

After Entercom had great success with over a million and half meals raised for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank on Tuesday (that was exponentially higher than their 100,000 meal goal!), Hearst’s WTAE-TV (4) had a successful drive on Wednesday raising $1.2 million dollars. In 62 years of broadcasting, it was the highest earning single-day telethon the station held. Matching contributions came from Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, Edgar Snyder and Associates, and The Meredith Group at Hefren-Tillotson.
