Marty Griffin has been sidelined from the airwaves after developing severe throat pain last week. The KDKA-AM (1020; W261AX 100.1) morning co-host had a procedure to open up his throat which has been affected by severe acid reflux and a previous bout with throat cancer.

After an 8-hour airshift for the station’s Warmathon fundrasiser, Griffin felt pain in his throat which was so severe that he described it as a “12” on a scale of 1-10. He went to the hospital where he stayed for evaluation and observation. Doctors revealed that a small tear had occurred in Griffin’s throat and he experienced a fungal infection known as thrush. Further examination showed he is also fighting pneumonia. Doctors say it could be six weeks for him to recover from the pneumonia and they have put him on voice rest.
