Stupid editor… Reddit is for the cool kids

Yes, I am that stupid editor.

While I will admit that I’ve given many of the more popular social networks a try, I will admit to you I never really got into Reddit. My understanding of the site is that it’s very much like the “message boards” in days of old (and by “old” I mean 1998) where you would post something and people would answer – so long as you remembered to check it every time you sat down at a computer. But those were much easier to read.

I’ve used Reddit maybe a handful of times now. And maybe this is due to my dopamine-challenged brain, but I find it confusing. My main question is: Why do you have to read through computer lingo in order to get to where you want to go? This is the Internet, things should be a little easier – not like the card catalog at the library (which I am sure I could still read in short notice if I had to). While I am sure it is set up like Windows Explorer for your computer files, I still found all the extra “electro-language” distracting and my eyes were crossed and my teas were dotted. And thusly, I am not a “Redditor”!

If you didn’t read the article “Please Excuse this Announcement”, you may not have realized that I recently discovered the stories on this site were being linked by a Redditor… I followed the path to the page and sure enough it connected me back to the story listed here. I know full well that anyone can do that – this is the Internet after all – rules don’t matter here. I was flattered, of course, but then a wave of concern hit me. Somehow I thought our new frend “A. I. Knowitall” was taking my stories for nefarious purposes or to at least improve upon its misinformation about Pittsburgh Radio and TV history. (I used ChatGPT once just to see if it knew about the history of WJAS… it had very few correct facts, and most that it had were related to other stations in Pittsburgh.)

Of course, if I had really delved deeper into Reddit before jumping to such a dumb conclusion, I would have seen the page where stories from the local papers, and other sources were intertwined among my stories. So to Reddit user JoeVelocity, I offer my sincerest apology, yet I hope you understand why I was a little concerned about where my efforts are being used.

Finally, let me assure you, THIS is PBRTV.com…. and everything on this site – whether by me or someone else – has been, is, and will be written by human hands and brains. No A.I. here! And if we should ever stoop to such levels… this site will have to be pried from my cold, dead hands. Or, at the very least, we’ll inform you of the assistance… which we won’t because this is not A.I.’s website!
