Retirement news…
April 27, 2026Whether you know him as Bill McWreath or “evil twin” Kenny Woods, come the end of the month you’ll know him as retired!
The long-time WORD-FM (101.5) programmer and host, at least until they ended music last year, is retiring from the airwaves after decades and many frequencies in radio. Woods is probably best-known for his time at WWSW (94.5) after having been on WYDD (104.7) and the very short-lived “Energy 105” WNRJ.
In a move that would eventually see some irony, WNRJ would be sold to Salem Broadcasting in late 1989/early 1990. Their intention to put WORD-FM on 104.7, but certain circumstances behind the scenes delayed that format causing Salem to switch 104.7 to WEZE-FM and continue the Beautiful/Easy format that had recently been dumped by WSHH (99.7) as a place filler.
Some years ago, Woods told PBRTV words to the effect of, “I wasn’t interested in spinning The Living Strings and moved on.” Both Woods and Mike Frazer took their energy to then-Allegheny Center at the studios of WWSW.
When let go from 3-W-S, Woods went back to Salem and WORD-FM (now at 101.5) and WPIT (730). His Christian music programs was popular for several years, until Salem put an end to music on all of their stations last year in protest to exorbitant rights fees.
In a social media post Woods says, if he needs the cash someday, he hopes you’ll recognize his voice when he greets you at Walmart. No word on whether the “good twin” McWreath agrees with that potential plan.

I wish him Godspeed and good luck in retirement.
